This is the part of the show where we tell you about good music. Good music you won't find on shitty FM radio. I was disgusted with FM before I got Sirius. Now, the maybe 10 minutes of FM I've heard since last Xmas, when I received the most wonderful of gifts, Sirius SatRad, well, they sucked almost as much as this sentence's structure.
Music Snobbery commencing in 5,4,3,2.......
Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins - Rise With Fist
Right now, I am more in love with this girl than Alanis. (Alanis, if you're reading this, baby, we'll always have SFIJ)
Neko Case - Star Witness
Sorry my dear Alanis, but Neko is stealing some love too. I say Star Witness, but all the songs on her page rule.
Phoenix - Long distance call
If I had to pick my number two song right now, it would probably be this. I have this thing where songs remind me of people. This song reminds of my friend Joel. ( See Joelito on my sidebar link thingee)
of Montreal - Requiem for OMM2
of Montreal's new album, "the sunlandic twins" has gotten more spins in my Saturn than anything else the past two months. You should purchase it.
Aloha - Your Eyes
No they're not from Hawaii. Yes they're cool.
Band of Horses - The Funeral
Everytime I hear this song, I stop and listen real hard to the lyrics. Go for it.
Rilo Kiley - I Never
My new girlfriend, Jenny Lewis, is the lead singer of this band. I'm pretty sure I first saw this group on an episode of the 2nd greatest TV show ever, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You know, at that "All Ages" they hung out at? You don't know? Sucks to be you.
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
The general public aka the robotic masses, are finally starting to discover the genius, original sound of Gnarls. Crazy is still a cool ass song, and it wouldn't suprise if it tops the Pop charts someday soon. Check out GoGo Gadget Gospel while you're at it.
Mates of State - Fraud In The 80's
If you listen to this, or any song on their myspace for that matter, and come away not thinking this husband and wife duo are cool, then there is no longer any hope for you.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Phenomena
Y Control is still my favorite song by the YYY's. But you ask, does Karen-O still rock freaky? Oh Hell Yeah Yeah Yeah! (sorry, just couldn't pass up that cheesy ass pun)
The Flaming Lips - Free Radicals
The Flaming Lips are my favorite rock band of all time. Their style matches the insides of my brain. This past week, I finally started doing some serious listening to their latest album. I've had it since the day it dropped and I'm not even really sure what took me so long to start loving it. The more I listen to it, the more I want to listen to it. Don't think I'll love it as much as Yoshimi, I'm still way gay for that album, but it's definitely a keeper.
Katie Melua - Just Like Heaven
Like I said, chick singers, I can't help it. Say hello to the person everyone has or will call the Euro version of Norah Jones. Not sure if she is as good as Norah, maybe a little cuter, and that may be clouding my judgement right now, but yeah, she sounds good.
Elf Power - An Old Familiar Scene
This song has been out awhile, and I'm dying to get the album and everything else this group has done. The mixture of instruments, song structure, the singing and lyrics, brilliant. I promise you, you won't here this on "The Edge".
Art Brut - Formed A Band
Listen to this song a few times, and then tell me if it doesn't get stuck in your head for days. Love it.
Honestly, it's no secret how and where I am finding all this good music. Left of Center - 26 on Sirius, there just isn't anything better for me. For years you could only read about bands and music like this in magazines or hear it on college radio. Not anymore.
And seriously, this is just the edge of a bunch of good shit. There is just so much cool music out there that FM doesn't even acknowledge, that even listening to MySpace music is better than FM. At least with Sirius you have a gateway drug to cool music. With FM, it's nothing but the Clear Channel's of the world dealing you junk.
For more of what I am listening to nowadays, hit The Armando Show MySpace and check out "My Friends".
